AMP Changes the Rules of Music Promotion

amplogo.gif
In 2005, six founding members formed the Association of Music Podcasting (AMP) to provide support for music podcasters who share a passion and commitment to delivering high quality, legal, permission-based music to their combined and growing listener bases. Since then the organization has grown to a thirty member strong group, representing producers in most major metropolitan regions in the United States, as well as Canada and the United Kingdom.

ÒAMP represents a new, non-traditional growing music marketing and promotion vehicle? says Derrick Oien, President and one of the founding members of AMP. ÒWe are working outside the box and outside the common music industry channels to get new music to the listener. By invoking open-source network methodologies AMP is able to provide a distributed promotions and marketing solution for new music acts.?

Podcasting Excites MoMA Tours!

nytimeslogo.gifIf you have ever taken a tour of a museum or an art gallery you may know how dry the tour may be, especially if you decide to pay the $5 price for an audio companion to guide you through. Well, be bored no more. A professor of communications and a few of his college students have used podcasting to “spice up” your tour through MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art). Here is a piece of what you may here now:

“Now, let’s talk about this painting sexually,” a man’s deep voice said. “What do you see in this painting?” — A woman, giggling, responded on the audio track: “Oh my God! You’re such a pervert. I can’t even say what that – am I allowed to say what that looks like?”

As you can see, this is a scad different then the dry audio you may be expecting to hear at a museum or from your tour guide. Podcasting is truly revolutionizing the world. If you will be heading to MoMA soon, dont forget to download the podcast for the MoMA tour before you go. If you are looking to help with the “Remix MoMA” project, check out their website and find out how you can submit your new age reviews of art at MoMA.

Teachers, Students Get into Podcasting

mainetodaylogo.gif

Every day I wake up and read the latest in podcasting news…and I usually get a smile on my face with all that is happening. But today when I got around to checking the news, I was more excited than usual. Growing up in the time I did, we did not see many computers in school so it is obvious we were not recording our own news shows. A school in Maine (3rd and 4th Graders) are now producing and publishing a podcast about their classrooms and what is going on. Im proud to be part of a technology that is effecting the world so greatly, even down to people so young. Here is a portion of their story…

“A group of third- and fourth-graders at Wells Elementary School is finding a global audience for its work through a high-tech form of publishing known as podcasting. The Room 208 Podcast is a weekly Internet audio program written, produced and performed by students under the direction of teacher Bob Sprankle. There have been five shows so far.”

TV Guide Starts Podcasting

tvguidelogo.gifI usually do not talk much about podcasts that have not submitted to the Podcast Alley directory yet, but I will make the exception this time. TV Guide has decided to jump into the podcasting arena with their very own podcast.

“In this exclusive weekly Podcast, you can listen to Michael Ausiello and the TVGuide.com crew as they provide inside scoop, offbeat opinions and answers to your questions about the latest entertainment headlines, the hottest TV shows, the newest movies and the biggest celebrities. Just follow the easy directions below and you’ll be able to enjoy pop culture on the go, at your desk or at home anytime you need a fix!”

I cant say really that I watch all that much TV, but this podcast for some reason has caught my eye. I will add it to my temporary subscription list and give it a whirl.

Investors.com Gives you the Price of Podcast Sponsorships

investorscomlogo.gifOk folks, most of you reading this are probably not pulling major $$ for producing your podcasts right now. But thanks to MarketWatch (and investors.com) we now know how much Weblogs, Inc pulled to work with Volvo and GM.

“Volvo paid Weblogs Inc. $60,000 to sponsor the Autoblog.com Web log and podcast for six months, BusinessWeek Online reported. Four months into the deal, the podcast, an audio program that can be downloaded from the Internet, has been retrieved 20,000 times.”

Kinda makes you think, now doesnt it? Im also wondering now about that 20,000 number…is that the total for 6 months? What differentiates this number and the amount of money given to them from other podcasters that have around 3,300 listeners a month? You can read more on the Investors.com Website and leave your comments here.

TechPodcasts.com Hits 100,000 Listeners

Many of you out there have probably heard of AMP (or the Association of Music Podcasters). This group formed in the early times of podcasting to unite all podsafe music podcasters. They have done very well for themselves, but now, much like AMP, another Organizatioin has been getting a lot of press, and traffic for their collaborative efforts.

In a press release issued earlier today, the Tech Podcast Group (at www.techpodcasts.com) have now reached a big milestone with over 100,000 Listeners!

” TechPodcasts.com, the top technical podcast resource worldwide, announced today that the network reached 100,000 Podcast Listeners in April. In addition Tech Podcasts Network recorded over 167,000 podcast downloaded in the same period. This network has grown like wild fire with 16 shows reporting in April, with our membership growing to over 40 shows in may.”

Forbes.com Says SELL your Audible Stock!

While browsing the Forbes Website, I stumbled upon an interesting little article Title ‘Podcasting, A Growing Threat to Audible’. This title was intriguing but not nearly as much as the article was to me. From what I gather, a stock research group did a study and was suggesting a “sell” rating for people owning the Audible stock.

Standard & Poor’s Equity Research reiterated a “sell” rating on Audible (nasdaq: ADBL – news – people ), noting that “podcasting constitutes a growing threat” to the company, “particularly its Periodicals and Radio and TV categories.”

I guess the announcement that iTunes would support podcasting was a big blow (in the researchers minds) to Audibles business model and that podcasting could potentially ruin that company.

NBC News Starts podcasting in June

According to the Online Media Daily website, NBC News will start podcasting (or repurposing shows for podcast delivery) next month. It seems like everybody is trying to get into the game now.

NBC NEWS WILL NEXT MONTH begin offering podcasts of portions of its news shows, the company said Tuesday. The podcasts, which will be accessible at MSNBC.com, will include segments from MSNBC’s prime-time programs such as “Hardball with Chris Matthews” and “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.”
